WGHP Digital Information
Provided by Charlie Layno - WGHP Transmitter Supervisor
WGHP-DT operates 24 hours a day, 7 days a week on channel 35. WGHP-DT is authorized 1 million watts at 1240 feet at the analog transmitter site outside of Randleman. At the present time, WGHP-DT is upconverting the regular analog signal, but there continues a process started several years ago to convert the station to a digital facility. As soon as more digital equipment is installed, more of the digital signal will be sent to the digital transmitter. WGHP-DT began operation at 5 PM April 29, 2002 at its currently reduced operating power of 4200 watts with an antenna height of 900 ft on the analog tower. At the present time, there has not been a date set to increase to full power. Additional government authorization (non-FCC) is required before the full power facilities can be constructed and operated.
